The Best Discrete Outdoor Anti-Loitering Solutions for Residential Homes

Protecting your house requires good locks and a strong security alarm.

Protecting the exterior of your home, however, is another matter entirely, particularly when there are street-based issues to consider in your local area.

From teenagers playing sports or partying until the early hours, all the way to vandalism or aggressive anti-social behavior, it’s important that all homeowners know their options to keep their home safe, all without being a nuisance to their neighbors.

Top 3 Anti-Loitering Devices

One of the most unique and effective security solutions available to homeowners is anti-loitering devices. These can be particularly useful if you:

  • Have people trespassing on your property often, for example, if people use your property as a shortcut.
  • Live next door to an area that frequently sees rough sleepers.
  • Deal with aggressive and frequent anti-social behavior, for example, if teens batter your door or try to harass you because it is fun.
  • Live near a bar or live music venue and want a solution to drive people away quickly after closing.

There are several devices on the market, though, so it’s important to know their features, options, and limits to choose the best solution for your property:

Mosquito Loitering Solutions

The original and internally most renowned security sound deterrent on the market today is from Mosquito Loitering Solutions.

The MK4, for example, offers two main settings.

The first is a teen setting intended for those under 25. The other is an all-ages deterrent.

You can also customize it by hooking the device up to a motion sensor, an automatic timer, or a remote control.

The MK4 also has an automatic shut-off feature, allowing you to set it so it turns off 20 minutes after it turns on and has a short 30m range, ideal for limiting the frequency to your property.

The frequencies also don’t travel through walls or even glass, so your neighbors won’t hear a thing and be annoyed.

The only people who hear will be the ones on the street who are causing a nuisance themselves.

Motion sensors can also be attached to the MK4, your outdoor lights, and camera system, making it a must-have addition.

With motion sensors, you can have your lights and the security sound deterrent go off at the same time at night, which can immediately spook teens and irritate them further into leaving.

Brocott/Best Ultrasonics

Another popular option is the BCT017 unit from Brocott, which may actually be the same as the Best Ultrasonics offering, though at different price points.

Its set frequency between 16KHz and 17KHz is ideal for teen deterrent, though it officially hasn’t been tested or approved for use on humans.

The longer 50m range, however, makes it better suited for discouraging anti-social behavior on larger properties, like farms, cabins, or other remote homes.

The unit also comes with accessories like a wall mount and mains converter, making it ready to use right out of the box with minimal setup.

ABC Fire & Security

The final option you’ll see on lists is the ABC Fire & Security device.

Now, while technically a rodent scarer from another company repackaged for anti-loitering purposes, it does have its pros.

The main one of which is its extensive 100m range. If you have a large property, particularly one with few obstacles such as bushes or trees, this unit can deter teen gatherings at a distance.

If your property has become a hot spot for teen parties (for example, if they break into an outbuilding on your property), then this unit can help deter them from the comfort of your own home.
